There may not be many of them, but the beaches in Malta are incredible. They are beautiful, with white sand and clear waters, are mostly relaxed and offer everything you could need from a day at the beach. The island was perfect for me, with an amazing mix of relaxation, alongside culture and history. If you want to combine the two, Malta is the place to visit. You just have to know where to find the little beaches, as they are hidden and fairly small. Here are the best beaches in Malta…
Mellieha Bay
This is probably the largest beach Malta has and it is also very popular mostly because of the multiple hotels dotted around the Mellieha region. The beach is large with restaurants and cafes dotted around the promenade, and there are also changing cabins. It’s the ideal place to spend a beach day with your family or friends.
Armier Bay
The most North-located beach on Malta is Armier Bay, and because it’s a little out of the way it also means it can be quieter here. When we visited it was really quiet and offers a beautiful beach, with some places to eat and grab a drink close by. If you have a car and are searching for hidden beaches, make sure you check this one out!
Paradise Bay
Paradise Bay is another lovely bay to visit located at the farthest north point of Malta. It is unique because from the top of the cliffs, it offers an unobstructed view of both Gozo and Comino Island. The beach is accessed by a rather long flight of steps but the beauty and seclusion of the beach makes the descent well worth it. It is a fairly small sandy beach set in a natural environment secluded rocky surroundings.
Blue Lagoon
I couldn’t pull together a list of the best beaches without including this gem. The Blue Lagoon is on the island of Comino and with it’s clear waters, white sands and great hikes close by, I had to include it in the list. Take a boat from the north of Malta over to the Blue Lagoon early morning to miss the crowds for a great day in paradise. I have pulled together a full blog post on visiting the Blue Lagoon here.
Pretty Bay
Located in the south of Malta, Pretty Bay is exactly what it says on the tin, it’s pretty. The beach is close to fishing villages with a fine sand beach and it so far not very well known by tourists so tends to be quiet. The beach is surrounded by a little park, but there aren’t many food outlets, so take a picnic with you for the day.
Ghajn Tuffieha Bay
And lastly but not least, a truly unique offer. This beach is located not far from St Paul’s Bay and it’s uniqueness is due to it’s red coloured sand. You park at the top and then walk down towards the sea, where you can relax all day. There are only two places on this beach to grab food or go to the toilet so be prepared.
Where are your favourite beaches?!
I flew to Malta with the wonderful team at Jet2 Holidays on a package holiday, including flights, accommodation and transfers. We stayed at the lovely Maritim Antonine Hotel in Mellieha Bay. For more information and to book your own trip to Malta visit Jet2 Holidays.
