THE ANXIETY FIX: Match your tea to your mood

I am such a tea person, I don’t know where to begin. I have tried them all, whether it’s camomile tea, peppermint tea, Earl Grey, English Breakfast or lemon and ginger – I’ve been there and done it.

No matter what is going on in my life, tea is always a constant. When I am feeling happy I drink tea, when I feel sad I drink tea, when I am with friends I drink tea, when I brunch I drink tea, when I got to bed I drink tea.

I don’t do caffeine and haven’t for well over a year now… it’s meant that I’ve now opened my eyes to a whole new world of teas. My favourites are English Breakfast, camomile and peppermint. What’s your favourite?       



After years of struggling with IBS and a non-diagnosed dairy intolerance I finally managed to control my stomach problems much better. This was in part down to the wonder that is peppermint tea, not only did it help to cure my stomach woes, it also provided me with a drink which was giving me natural nutrients too. 

Benefits: Peppermint tea is sometimes referred to as “the stomach healer” because it is known to soothe many stomach ailments, including stomach aches, stomach pains, stomach cramps, heartburn, gas/flatulence, indigestion and diarrhea, and to promote healthy digestion.


Sleeping is my favourite thing to do but, but with the stresses of everyday life often sleep can be dropped from the priority list. it can be hard to wind down in the evenings and just relax. This is where one of my favourites, camomile tea comes in. I have a cup before bed as often as I can, about an hour before I hit the hay. It’s great if you’re feeling anxious about something or if you’re just feeling a little all over the place. Benefits: Chamomile, also known as ‘Babune ka Phal’ in Hindi, is renowned for its medicinal properties and beauty benefits. This herbal tea, along with similar varieties, such as lavender and lemon balm can be used to relieve insomnia and help to promote a healthy sleep cycle and overall wellbeing.


Alternatively, if you need to be up super early or just want a little wake me up, then switch up your standard English Breakfast and opt for ginger tea. It gives you the kick that you need and you can also pair it with an array of other flavours, such as lemon, honey or lavendar. It’s great if you’re feeling a little run down and need to kick start your day!

Benefits: Drinking a cup of ginger tea before travelling can help prevent the nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness. You can also drink a cuppa at the first sign of nausea to relieve the symptom. Useful in improving digestion and increasing absorption of food, ginger tea can bloating after eating too much.


I have a rubbish immune system and often feel a little rubbish! When you just can’t help it, pop on the kettle and make yourself a brew with nettle and dandelion. These two ingredients are great for detoxing your system and providing your body with the necessary nutrients.

Benefits: This tincture helps to eliminate excess fluids, swelling and edema, while supplying the body with abundant vitamins and minerals. This is a great herbal product for pregnant women (or anyone) who is experiencing water retention. Ingredients: Organic Nettle Leaf and Dandelion Leaf.


And tbh, you don’t even need the actual tea bags. If you want to take it back to basics, simply grab the raw ingredients yourself and add hot water. My favourite doing it this way, is lemon and ginger, as all you need is boiling water, a squeeze of lemon and a slice of ginger. Or if this doesn’t take your fancy, why not try, orange zest and mint, or strawberries and lime? Mix it up the old school way!
