6 Tips for Staying On Track With Your Fitness Goals

If you’ve read this blog for a while, you’ll know how important both physical and mental health is to me. And that often continues whilst I am away too – as I travel so much it is important for me to continue these wellbeing strategies when I travel too. I wrote this blog post last year about keeping fit on holiday, but this post is more holistic, including both physical and mental health.

Many of us want to get fitter, stronger, and lose a little weight, but, the unfortunate truth is, very few of us do. Although some people start off strong, by overhauling their diets and hitting the gym hard, after no time at all, the motivation to continue can begin to deplete. You start snacking on junk food and skipping your workouts, ruining any progress that you might have already made. To help you stick with your fitness goals and keep on track, here are six things that you can do.

  1. Set Yourself Specific Targets

It’s difficult to be successful in anything unless you know exactly what it is that you plan to accomplish. Because of this, you need to be a little more specific about your fitness goals. Instead of stating that you simply want to “lose weight” or “get stronger”, you should find ways to measure your success. You should also set smaller targets to help you meet these larger goals.

  1. Tell Others Your Intentions

You’ll find it much easier to stick to your plans if you have others cheering you on. For this reason, you should let others know about your fitness goals. Some people simply tell their friends and family, while others create blogs and Instagram pages dedicated to their journey and achievements. This will also hold you accountable for your actions, so you’re less likely to quit.

  1. Choose The Right Exercise

Exercise doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, it’s best that you find an activity you genuinely enjoy. This way, you’ll view fitness as much less of a chore. If the gym isn’t for you, then you could try attending a dance or yoga class instead. Some people also enjoy swimming and cycling. There are many home exercises you could consider too if it’s difficult for you to get out of the house.

  1. Ask For Professional Help

Being unsure of how to stay fit or do certain exercises is no excuse to give up. There is always professional help available, including personal trainers. However, simply hiring professional help isn’t enough, though it is one of the most common personal training myths. You also need to do your own homework, as well as adhere to the workout and nutrition plan that they provide you.

  1. Bring A Friend Along

Working out with a friend can make the process a lot more enjoyable. If there is anyone in your life that want to get fit, therefore, you should bring them along. You could also work out with your partner and children. Many classes, such as family yoga, are more than happy for you to do this. On days when you really don’t want to work out, it’s those people that will get you moving.

  1. Reward Your Hard Work

The healthier life you will live is the best reward you can get from sticking to your fitness goals. However, there are many others that will provide a lot more motivation. You could schedule yourself a massage, for example, or watch a few hours of television. These are only small treats, but they can lead to some very powerful results.

We live in a busy world where people aren’t necessarily able to find the time to unwind and de-stress. Going on holiday is the perfect time to truly reset and re-connect with ourselves and our loved ones. Getting away is proven to benefit your health and wellbeing, with research showing it can boost your immune system too.
