Sunday Market in Pollenca
Every Sunday, between 8:00 and 13:30 h, a market is held in Pollença, in the oldest part of the town. This market has 300 stalls where we can find food, crafts, shoes, clothes, plants… It takes place between the Plaça Major (main square) and Ca Les Monnares Square and surroundings; nowadays, in addition to these articles you can also find all kinds of typical products from the island of Majorca.
The markets in Mallorca take place in every village and town, once a week, all year round, with local produce and artisan products on sale, in the most eloquent celebration of the Mediterranean lifestyle.
This has been done for centuries, longer still perhaps, but the beauty of the Mallorca markets is that they haven’t changed. Albeit the influx of new foreigh residents and the flood of tourism to the area, Mallorca’s weekly markets carry on regardless. Fruit and vegetable stall holders begin to set up at dawn, turning the plazas and main squares of the island into an explosion of colour and life. Local artisans sell handmade products while everyone does their weekly shopping, outdoors, slowly, and then sit down for a mid morning coffee or beer in the sunshine.
