Monthly Favourites – January #21

What a month it’s been and it’s flown by too! I kicked off the New Year in Jersey with Theo, I headed to Meribel in France for a weekend of skiing, I headed to Henley-on-Thames for a weekend retreat and I also started planning our wedding! Here’s my monthly favourites for January…

Kicking off the New Year in Jersey – For my last trip of the year, me and Theo flew for a weekend in Jersey! We spent 48 hours exploring this wonderful island, including three days and two nights. Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands, between England and France and even through it is a self-governing dependency, it still sits within the United Kingdom. The island is a real mix of British and French cultures, with streets signs in French and English, many towns named after French phrases and lots of French inspired cuisine. The island is known for its beaches, cliffside walking trails and historic castles and there’s just so much to do on this tiny yet wonderful island. The island is possibly most famous for the Jersey War Tunnels complex, in a former hospital excavated by slave labor, which documents the island’s 5-year German occupation during WWII. So what are you waiting for? Get booking those flights and get planning that weekend in Jersey… READ MORE

Budget-friendly destinations to visit in 2019 – One of the most asked questions I get on a daily basis is “how do you afford to travel so much?” and the answer isn’t as simple as it first seems. I am not rich, not do I have a rich family, nor do I own my own business so I travel a lot for work. I simply plan my trips excruciatingly painful, so that they are the cheapest they can be, but provide me with incredible experiences. One of the biggest misconceptions people have when thinking about travel is that it is going to cost a fortune, but it really isn’t true. Travel can be cheap – and with flights from £2.99 via RyanAir it’s no surprise more and more people ar jetting off up to five times a year. READ POST

A Birthday Weekend at De Vere Wokefield Estate – Last weekend for Theo’s birthday we headed down to South Buckinghamshire for a weekend retreat at the gorgeous De Vere Wokefield Estate. Located just outside of Reading and the M25, De Vere Wokefield Estate is a stunning hotel with multiple buildings set across an expanse of grounds, with a recent £20 million restoration, swimming pool, 87 guest rooms, 12 suites, event spaces, lake, gym and spa (opening in 2019). This place is huge – so it’s the perfect hotel for a weekend retreat with the family.

My Travel Highlights from 2018 – Inspired by Monica from The Travel Hack, I’ve decided to pull together a review of my travel highlights from 2018, month by month. 2018 has taken to me to some incredible destinations all around the world; from Saint Lucia to Iceland and from Sweden to Amsterdam, I have explored some truly wonderful countries and cities this year. I have overcome so many milestones this year too, achieved a lot and learnt a lot (you can read more about what I’ve learned here) and I am so proud of how far I’ve come in 2018. After scrolling back through my photos and Instagram, it reminded me how many amazing memories I have created this year, and more importantly how many memories I am yet to make in 2019…. So here’s my recap of a year of adventures…. READ MORE

My Wellbeing Bucket List for 2019 – I’ve already done my bucket list for travel in 2019, but I had to also include my personal wellbeing bucket list too. My blog talks a lot about travel and adventure, but another passion close to my heart is wellbeing and talking about our mental and physical health. After going through depression, panic disorder and more over the past five years, I now want to help others who are going through or have been in similar situations. Because of this, I launched THE ANXIETY FIX, a series of blog posts all about mental health and wellbeing. For the next 12 months I plan on continuing to prioritise my mental health above many other aspects of my life and I want to ensure I continue this good practice for the foreseeable future. Stay tuned for my wellbeing bucket list…

Travel Story London – I headed in to London one cold Monday evening in January to see my friends Alice and Kash talk at Travel Story London! It was an evening of amazing stories, journeys and much more. I met with Sandy and Emily from the cruise too, and we had a lovely catch up. I am making it my goal to attend more events in London this year as I’ve made some amazing friends from this travel blogging world and I’d love to make even more…
