After a long day at work, our evenings can often turn into a binge watching session of TV’s crappiest shows. However, as the new year approached I wanted to be far more productive with my evenings. As I finish at 5pm, it gives me ample time to get life admin done, and end the day on the right footing.
These are 5 things that I try to accomplish each night to help my day end well and to prepare for the next day:
1. Go to the gym straight from work
If you’re anything like me, I have to go to the gym straight from work. If I go home, I don’t end up going back out. Better off taking my gym kit to work, and heading straight from the desk to treadmill.
2. Clean the house
If you leave it till the weekends, you’re only wasting free time you could be doing other fun things. It also leaves your weekends free to travel…. Even better!
3. Do your to do list for tomorrow
Be super productive and set your day out for the next. I often do my to do list in the evening, as it not only sets me up for tomorrow but it also allows me to brain dump before I relax in the evening, ready for sleep.
4. Do your Tesco food shop
I actually much prefer going to do the food shop each week on a weeknight evening. It’s quiet past 6pm and you can get it done without it encroaching on your precious weekends.
5. Go out for dinner with friends
Why wait for the weekend? Go out for dinner with friends in the week too. It’ll likely be quieter and it means you’re not trying to cram all your social events in to two jam-packed days.
6. Read to learn
Growth requires learning, and the more topics you’re engaged and interested in, the more effective you can be. But there’s rarely time during the workday to feed your mind or learn something new. If you set aside some time to read in the evening, you’ll find it’s a relaxing way to expand your horizons.
7. Search for flights
My favourite thing to do at the moment is searching for flights to warmer climates. And if I am low on money, I will use the Skyscanner ‘everywhere’ function so you can find the destinations with the cheapest return flights. Have a go and see what you can find here.
8. Practice self care
Spend your weeknight evenings practising self care. Do some yoga, give yourself a pedicure, put on a face mask, and read your favourite book. The only way you can really be the best person you are is by being healthy, both in mind and body.
