As we made our way over to Hanoi, from Cat Ba we were told by many people to go to Central Backpackers, Hanoi, Vietnam, however we decided to go with our gut instinct and it appeared to be correct. This little hostel is owned & operated by an Aussie and a crazy Vietnamese guy who were really nice and made you feel right at home.
It’s a cool place, a little more chilled out than the Hanoi backpackers, so easier to get a good night’s sleep. But its still got a good social scene and the staff are very friendly as well. The hostel was a typical hostel, nothing too much but what more do you expect for $5?
The location was fantastic and the services on offer such as an airport pickup and tour booking were helpful. I would also highly suggest the 3 day/2 night Halong Bay tour as it was excellent value for money. I stayed with my other three friends in their rooftop apartment which for us was perfect. It was separate to others and had a lot of space. We did have a few problems with the toilet but it was sorted out in a day or so.
The rooms were basic and pretty clean. The walls looked dirty though and the ceiling in our bathroom was questionable. The wifi was excellent, but if you needed to use the computers you ended up waiting for hours which was annoying.
Staff was generally helpful though and the bar was nice enough for a hostel and the free beer was nice touch or happy hour. Definitely a place that I would recommend if someone ask me where to stay in Hanoi!
If you are in Hanoi, make sure you stay at Central Backpackers, Hanoi, Vietnam!
