5 Alternative Winter Holiday Ideas

Summer may be over but that doesn’t mean the holidays have to stop! Why not book a weekend break in Amsterdam, a spa break with your friends or even head to a yoga retreat and full relax. Here are my 5 alternative winter holiday ideas…

Winter Europe Destinations

1. Glamping

Explore the outdoors and get back to nature with many of the companies across the UK that provide glamping breaks for you, the family, friends and couples. For ultimate luxury book a weekend stay with Forest Holidays or Lantern and Larks, for campsite fun with friends try ReadyCamp (part of the Camping and Caravanning Club) and for back to basics camping try a pitch at hundreds of Caravan Club sites up and down the UK.

2. City break

You can fully explore a city in less than 36 hours if you live in England so you’ve got no excuses. You can fly out to Amsterdam for a weekend of living it up, explore the history of Berlin or even take a trip to Daios Cove in Crete for some sun and relaxation. If you plan it correctly with bank holiday you could also get a five-day break and only take one day’s holiday.

3. Yoga retreat

I always find myself feeling focused on my mental health in autumn. I don’t know why but summer seems like a fast paced blur and then I manage to find my focus come October. A yoga retreat is the perfect way to refocus and get your mojo back. There are many across the UK all placed in serene and peaceful places, but there are also lots abroad that can be done over a weekend. One I am desperate to do is Sarah Highfield’s yoga retreats in places such as Greece or Italy.

4. Staycation

There is nothing better than going on holiday and not having to mess around with weight restrictions, liquid limitations and queue after queue in departures. A staycation gives you time to explore your own country whether that is heading for a hike up Snowdonia, taking a spa break with your mum or booking a weekend away in a major city.

5. Interrailing

This may be a little alternative for a few of you but inter-railing actually provides you with a great autumn holiday, the crowds have disappeared, the weather has cooled and you can book a cheaper train ticket all across Europe. Why not explore the streets of Florence, the canals of Venice and the hills of Portugal all in one trip.
