REVIEW: Sunday Get Togethers at The Wavendon Arms

Last Sunday, on a sunny afternoon, Theo and I headed to the newly renovated The Wavendon Arms with our friends Grace and Adam to experience the pub, since undergoing their decadent transformation. The pub is part of Mitchell’s & Butler’s pubs, which is a small group known for decadent dining destinations and great food.

Modern gastropub with an airy, beamed dining space and an upscale British and Mediterranean menu. The Wavendon Arms is a premium pub, bar, and restaurant with its very own courtyard and garden, centrally located in the heart of the picturesque town of Wavendon. At The Wavendon Arms, they serve fantastic food & drinks in beautiful settings, that are guaranteed to give you an unforgettable dining experience. No matter the reason for your visit, expect an atmosphere full of energy and buzz, from the bar to your table.

From the moment we arrived I felt like we had stepped back in time, with the new decor transforming you to something out of the 1950’s, with both the interior and exterior having been given a huge facelift, with copper tones throughout, rich dark colours, golden palms and velvet seating.

The Wavendon Arms

The Wavendon Arms is located in the picturesque town of Wavendon, and is a pub, bar, and restaurant with its very own courtyard and garden, centrally located in the heart of Buckinghamshire. I was lucky enough to be invited to visit The Wavendon Arms a few days after it opened to the public with my friends and I was thrilled with what we uncovered at The Wavendon Arms.

The chefs here have trained at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, meaning the menus and dishes are modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients, as well as a daily-changing specials menu.

The Wavendon Arms is the perfect place to gather your friends or get the family together and join them on a Sunday afternoon, to enjoy an avocado brunch, or an indulgent Sunday roast. And their roasts are not to be missed, with an array of options and sides, including perfectly-plump Yorkshire puddings, fluffy goose-fat-roasted potatoes and fresh seasonal veg.

The team have been hard at work to create show-stopping food & drinks menus that are truly divine, especially when enjoyed against the backdrop of our stunning interiors — there are few places better in Milton Keynes where you can sit back & unwind or kickstart what’s certain to be an amazing night out.

To begin we started with an array of dishes, including their new famous vegan Miso Aubergine Bao Buns with sesame, mango & spring onion salsa, Seared wild Atlantic scallops with lobster and crab bonbons, pea & truffle oil velouté and Grace went for the Massaman Chicken Skewers with Pomegranate & coconut tzatziki dip. My Bao Buns were incredible, with a soft and sticky dough, set against the salsa marinated aubergine.

The chicken skewers were also incredible, with a rich nutty sauce, perfectly balanced against the tangy pomegranate seeds. And Adam opted for a starter off the sides; halloumi fries! Good choice Adam!

Then for mains, I opted for the traditional Chicken Sunday Roast, with all the trimmings; smoked beef dripping roasted potatoes, seasonal greens, roasted root vegetables, Yorkshire pudding & bottomless gravy.

And I went overboard and also ordered a side of Charred Broccoli to add to my already bulging plate! I was absolutely stuffed by the end, but also super content with getting my monthly roast dinner! Grace and Adam went for the traditional freshly beer-battered cod and chips, with twice-cooked chunky chips, minted pea purée and tartare sauce.

Whilst Theo opted for a dish off the meat menu; Rotisserie Half Chicken with skinny fries, garlic confit & preserved lemon aioli. And finished with a chimichurri flavouring (others include truffle and Massaman).

Then as if we weren’t all full from our previous courses, we all decided to get dessert too. It was incredibly hard to choose, as they all sounded amazing, but I went for the decadent vanilla Crème Brulee, with amaretto biscuits, whilst the others opted for melting chocolate and peanut bomb with hot salted caramel sauce, and the sticky toffee pudding with peanut butter cream.

The chocolate bomb looked incredible, especially as the waiter poured the hot sauce over the chocolate and it melted to reveal peanut butter in the middle. An indulgence worth talking about!

Overall, we had such a lovely time visiting The Wavendon Arms, was super impressed with the food, the staff and the atmosphere. They’ve done an amazing job with the decor inside and it really does feel five star!!!!
