ACCOMMODATION EUROPE TRAVEL

A day at The Phoenicia, Valletta

If you’re dreaming of an exquisite hotel experience in one of the finest 5* luxury hotels in Valletta, look no further than The Phoenicia Malta. Despite actually staying at Maritim Antonine Hotel in Mellieha, we headed over to Valletta to visit The Phoenicia, as I had been invited for lunch and an afternoon by their infinity pool. If you’re visiting Valletta, make sure you pop in to the The Phoenicia Valletta for an unforgettable experience.

Steeped in history and boasting magnificent décor matched only by the stunning views, our hotel has been recognised as one of the Valletta’s best luxury hotel since it opened in 1947.

A visit to The Phoenicia Malta is nothing short of perfection; bringing together tradition, warm Maltese hospitality, modern amenities and all of life’s comforts. And located just a stone’s throw from Valletta’s most coveted attractions, including the Upper Barrakka Gardens, Saint John’s Co-Cathedral and Grand Harbour.

The Phoenicia boasts 136 bedrooms and suites in a prestigious location, allowing guests to explore both city and harbour at ease, and offers some of the best views of the city. In collaboration with Peter Young Design, Campbell Gray Hotels have worked to retain the original features of the rooms, including the authentic tiled floors.

We headed to the hotel, after a short stroll around the city one morning, and joined them for lunch in the Phoenix Restaurant, inspired by Europe’s grandest cafés. To begin we ordered a bottle of their house white wine, before choosing our starters from the lunch menu. I opted for the Tagliatelle rizzi, whilst Theo chose the Lobster soup. My pasta dish was amazing and so tasty, but I was careful not to treat it as a main and eat too much!

For main I opted for Duck breast and courgette, whilst Theo went for the Risotto, salmon, parsley and curry butter. Both dishes were amazing, beautifully presented and had so much flavour. They were also both light, which is important when dining at lunch, and before going swimming.

After we’d let our lunch settle, we headed down to the bottom of the property to visit their famous infinity pool. The Bastion pool, at the end of 7.5 acres of mature gardens, is nestled by the fortification walls of the city and has panoramic views of Marsamxett harbour. It’s the perfect place to base yourself for the afternoon, with complimentary towels, exceptional service from the members of staff, and food and drink on offer all afternoon from the pool bar.

We spent the whole afternoon here, dipping in and out of the pool, and sunbathing in the sunshine. We had such a lovely afternoon at The Phoenicia Malta and would return again during a visit to Malta.
