REVIEW: Maritim Antonine Hotel, Malta

Located in Mellieha Heights, Maritim Antonine Hotel & Spa in Malta is one of the best hotels on the island. Only 1km away from the largest beach on the island, Mellieha Bay, the hotel is the ideal place to base yourself during a week exploring the wonderful island of Malta. Recently given a four star of excellence, this hotel has a prime spot with breathtaking views across to Gozo and Comino due to it’s many terrace levels carved out of the town’s rocky slopes.

When staying at the hotel, you can relax around the outdoor swimming pool, which is set in the landscaped terrace or around the pool located on the rooftop. And a great new addition to the hotel is the the newly renovated Marion Mizzi Wellbeing wellness facility, offering a spa, with indoor pool and treatment rooms. There is also a bus stop right outside the hotel for easy access to the rest of the island…

BEDROOM

Our room was a Junior Suite and had a double bed, with a sofa bed at the far end of the room. The rooms of 34 sq.m. in size reflecting a modern Mediterranean style through light, warm colours and comfortable furniture, tiled flooring throughout. Our beds was really comfortable and I slept well all week.

The hotel’s rooms are spread across two buildings, which are connected by a short subterranean passage. All bedrooms have views of the village, garden or sea, and the rooms feature an array of amenities for a relaxing stay, including a modern en-suite bathroom and centrally-regulated air conditioning/heating. Further features include a TV, hairdryer, safe, along, dressing table, luggage storage and wardrobes, with handy extras such as a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. Our room also had a lovely balcony overlooking the street down to the cathedral.

Unfortunately the room was possibility our least favourite thing about our stay. The room was rather small, with a pull out sofa bed for Arabella, and despite the room being clean and light, the bathroom tended to smell of drains and mould everytime we had a shower. This was a real shame that the room didn’t fulfill our expectations as everything else about the hotel was lovely. Obviously because it was summer holidays they were fully booked otherwise we would have requested to move rooms. It didn’t however ruin our stay as we didn’t spend much time in the room anyway.

RESTAURANTS

Thai Fusion

The restaurant is situated on the roof top enjoying spectacular views of Mellieha Bay, Gozo and Comino. The menu here is amazing – we loved it so much we returned again on our last night for a wonderful meal, whilst Mellieha Nights was taking place in the square below. The atmosphere and views here are amazing, and the food is even better. A great addition to the hotel…

Al Ponte Pizzeria

This great little restaurant located on the ground floor was another of our favourites. Serving mostly Mediterranean specialties and scrumptious pizzas fresh from the stone oven, this restaurant was great. You can also see into the kitchen and watch the progress of your order as it is transformed from fresh ingredients to mouth-watering meals. The pizza was divine…

Le Jardins

Enjoy sumptuous breakfast and delicious dinner buffets with a mouth-watering selection of both local and international cuisine and pleasant views of the garden. The terrace within the garden is used for outside dining during the warmer months and we joined the hotel out on the terrace next to the pool for their weekly BBQ Buffet and was really impressed with the service and selection. We dined in Le Jardins another night and was not as impressed with the food, but as it is the restaurant included with those on half board, it’s typically expected.

Le Mirage Cocktail Bar

Refreshing cocktails, soft drinks, wine and beer served in a cosy atmosphere adjoining the lobby. The soothing colours and plush armchairs entice visitors to indulge in a relaxing drink or two and over the weekends they often have a live pianist playing an array of familiar tunes.

I flew to Malta with the wonderful team at Jet2 Holidays on a package holiday, including flights, accommodation and transfers. We stayed at the lovely Maritim Antonine Hotel in Mellieha Bay. For more information and to book your own trip to Malta visit Jet2 Holidays.
