Dining at 185 Watling Street

Me and Theo love EPIC Pubs and have visited The Anchor at Aspley Guise and The Wheatsheaf at Bow Brickhill before (you can read those reviews here) so I was delighted when Theo mentioned visiting 185 Watling Street.

We are always impressed with the level of service, the quality of the food and the interiors decor throughout the restaurants. Therefore, we were super excited to head over to Towcester to try out 185 Watling Street, as I had been recommended this place by multiple people!

185 Watling St. Pub & Kitchen is much like The Anchor with great food, a quirky interior and a large selection of wine, gins and beers. Whether you visit in the summer or winter, they’ve always got lots on and something for every occasion.

As I had been to the gym that evening after work I was starving, and couldn’t wait to get stuck in to their menu, full of hearty and healthy food. To begin I had the Cumberland Scotch Egg served with Watercress, Date & Bacon Aioli, which was just what I need to curb my hunger, with a kick of aioli.

Theo had the Salt & Pepper Cornish Squid served with Spring Onions & Coriander, Chilli Jam which he said was amazing – with lots of flavour and the chilli jam was incredible. I obviously didn’t try, being allergic to seafood but I took his word for it!

Then once we had demolished the starters, our mains appeared. I opted for the 10oz Dry-aged Rump, Naturally Produced Prime Beef served with sweet potato fries, Grilled Mushroom, Watercress & Shallot Salad. Since starting my weight loss programme for St Lucia I have been eating lots of protein, and steak is a winner in my eyes; tasty and full of protein!

Theo opted for the Smoked Haddock Fishcake served with Leeks, Poached Egg & Curried Cream Sauce which again I didn’t try but he said had beautiful flavours and was cooked to perfection.

Then, as I was on my diet, I opted out of a pudding, but Theo decided to give the Warm Dark Chocolate & Ale Cake served with Treacle Ice Cream a go for good measure, and he wasn’t disappointed. He ate the whole thing to himself and finished the dish with a smile on his face!

We had such a lovely meal at 185 Watling Street, and I can’t wait to return. I especially can’t wait to return in summer, when I am told they have a lovely beer garden, with seating area for eating, BBQ on the warmer days and lots of events going on. I will be back!

*I was invited to 185 Watling Street to try their new menu, but as always opinions are my own!
