Monthly Favourites – January #10

I have really embraced the new year this time around. I did 12 days of Veganuary, before deciding I wanted to start eating chicken and eggs again, but still continue my meat-reduced diet, I started up with my PT again, I signed up to Protein World’s Slender Plan and I decided to go alcohol-free for the entire month.

Seeing in the New Year with Arabella – I ended 2017 sitting in the house I bought that year, with my step-daughter in my arms as we watched the fireworks going off in London on the television. It was the perfect start to the New Year. BONUS – I didn’t feel hungover the next day – first time for everything!

The Betsy Wynne – Me and Theo popped to The Betsy Wynne at the start of the month with Arabella for a Sunday Roast, this was just after I had given up veganuary, and decided I wanted a chicken Sunday Roast, with stuffing. I demolished the whole meal – despite feeling rather full afterwards. We love Oakman Inns, and regularly visit the pubs in our local area! Read my post here.

Holiday at Home for Theo’s birthday – Last weekend we drove three and a half hours up the M1 to Richmond, North Yorks. We were staying at the wonderful Brompton Lakes,, Yorkshire, part of the Holiday at Home family. We went up there with our best friends Tom and Sophie to celebrate Theo’s birthday in style. After a chaotic festive period, we wanted a trip that would be a mix of adventure and relaxation and when we stumbled across Brompton Lakes we knew it was the perfect location with a hint of luxury, alongside a splash of wellbeing = my perfect trip! Brompton Lakes is a collection of 5* lakeside holiday lodges with hot tubs in Richmond, North Yorkshire, where you will find everything you need for a weekend retreat away from the chaos of everyday life with family or friends. I finished 16 weeks of therapy with MIND – Back in September I began another stint of therapy with MIND in Milton Keynes. I had previously gone private or had group sessions but for this I enrolled in counselling 1:1. I am so glad I pushed myself to go every week, and last week I was signed off. I felt like I was finally in a really good place and didn’t need my weekly meetings with my therapist to keep in check. I am so proud of myself and feel like the world is my oyster now. Of course, the anxiety hasn’t gone, it doesn’t get cured, but I feel like I now have the tools to manage it better, and challenge my thoughts when problems do arise.

I went vegan! (for two weeks!) – For the first two weeks of January I went vegan. I found it surprisingly easy, as I already didn’t eat seafood and fish due to being allergic, and I am also lactose intolerant. The things I did miss were eggs and chicken and after two weeks I decided to instead do a reduced-meat diet, having meat only twice a week and allowing myself eggs.

Yo Sushi veganuary – To coincide with going vegan I did my research and stumbled across the fact Yo Sushi were also putting on a vegan menu for the month of January! You can choose from tofu or pumpkin katsu, vegetable dumplings (gyoza) with a dipping sauce, vegetable tempura, miso dumpling ramen, stir fried noodles and nori rolls. I went in and got about ten dishes, including their limited edition Green Gyoza (spinach dumplings). Yummy! Who knew being vegan could be so god damn easy?

I got myself a backpack! – Five years after I have backpacked I decided to grab myself a new one. This time I opted to go for a RiutBag X25, from the UK backpack startup and Kickstarter success Riut. My journey with Protein World

After I had finished my two weeks of veganuary I decided to then embark on Protein World’s The Slender Plan. I’ve done a ‘before’ photo and I’ve had my measurements taken, as well as my weight. I am on a 14 week plan, before I head off to St Lucia, and hope to hit my goal by then!

185 Watling Street – In the last week of January me and Theo drove over to Towcester to visit 185 Watling Street. 185 Watling Street is a pub and restaurant serving an array of epic British food, a selection of wines and cocktails, beers and real ales. Bursting with character, 185 Watling St. has an ornate art deco interior with a mix of traditional and contemporary dining areas, and is the perfect place for a meal with friends or family. Organizing for Your Lifestyle Written by Jane Stoller, but made for everyone. I was sent this book last month and loved it! Organising is a lifestyle, but it isn’t one-size-fits-all. Incorporating organising into your life shouldn’t, ultimately, involve changing who you are, but rather maximising it. Knowing where your favourite socks are, and having them stored correctly, means you’ll be able to wear your favourite socks more often, and look better doing it. Similarly, packing properly for a once-in-a-lifetime trip means you’ll be able to enjoy that trip even more. Emphasis is placed on the basics and then adapting them your own lifestyle and goals.

    That YoSushi vegan meal sounds great ! We’re toying with the idea of going vegan and this certainly offers good encouragement – let’s see !
