REVIEW: Marpunta Village Hotel, Greece

Last month I visited the wonderful island of Skiathos, only a three hour flight from the UK, but a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I stayed at the wonderful Skiathos Princess Hotel first and you can read my review here, before heading off for a few nights at the equally as decadent Marpunta Village Hotel in Alonissos only a small boat trip away. The hotel is a stunning paradise, isolated from the world, where relaxation is key and looking after number one is top priority. 

Alonnisos, also transliterated as Alonissos or Alonisos, is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, located next to Skiathos and Skopelos it is the third member of the Northern Sporades. Alonissos is an authentic island mostly known for its incredible natural beauty and the amazing beaches. Chora is the most picturesque village in Alonissos island, located on top of a hill and offering great view to the Aegean Sea where the beaches are crystal clear and surrounded by lush greenery, creating a relaxing atmosphere.

To the south of the island you will come across the beautiful Marpunta Village Hotel. The hotel is only a short stroll away from the ocean, where you can be surrounded by the endless blue waters of the Aegean. The philosophy at Marpunta Village Club is concentrated around making your holiday unique, with activities you might not try anywhere else, food which is locally sourced and cooked by talented chefs and wellbeing at the focus of everything they do. In a time when your priorities aren’t always your own, isn’t it nice to know there’s a destination where everything is included and the way you want it?

Marpunta Village Hotel features a private beach area with sun loungers, a stunning pool with sun terrace overlooking the ocean and a restaurant where fresh food is served everyday. Over the years the hotel has been renovated and refurnished to meet the demanding standards currently expected from an international holiday resort, yet without losing the homely ambience and charm of a Greek traditional hotel. It is air-conditioned and has a lobby, a 24-hour reception and check-out service, as well as a hotel safe and a newspaper stand.

Leisure facilities also include a mini market, a tennis court and a children’s playground. Scuba diving lessons can be provided upon charge if you want to explore the open ocean, or if you fancy heading out for the day Marpunta is located 1.9 miles from Patitiri Port and 2.8 miles from the scenic Alonissos Town.

Following a smooth check in and a wonderful welcome by the team we were escorted to our rooms. The hotel consists of 107 rooms that form an island village where guests can enjoy a stroll through the hotel’s picturesque small squares, as well as two bars and two restaurants. The hotel has an array of options when it comes to rooms with Club Double, Superior Double Sea View and a Family Room Garden View to name a few.

I had the pleasure of staying in a wonderful room during my stay, a Superior Double Sea View Room, which had the most incredible views out across the ocean via my own private balcony. My room was situated in the building closest to the beach, pool and restaurants. The light and airy room had plenty of space, and un-disrupted views onto the sea.

The room also had the luxury of a separate lounge area, where I spent many an evening reading my book looking out to sea. The bathroom was modern, and airy, with all the amenities you could want when on holiday. Each bedroom also had air conditioning and a telephone, while the apartments also include a kitchenette with minibar and electric kettle and Bathrobes and a hairdryer can be found in the private bathroom.

If I hadn’t already been spoiled in my room choices I was also lucky enough to enjoy lots of delicious traditional Greek food while at the hotel, including fresh fish, marinated chicken dishes, and lots of health salads which I can only wish I could have served to me when I am at home. In addition to the fantastic food, the hotel offers an impressive collection of wines, specially sourced from Greek vineyards.  The Santikos collection wines, including a Red, White and Rose are stocked in all properties are well worth sampling.

An American breakfast is served daily at the dining area, while guests can also enjoy International cuisine at the tastefully decorated restaurant, and during the day if you get peckish you can grab a drinks or a light snack that are available at the poolside snack bar throughout the day.

Overall, I had a wonderful stay, and left Marpunta feeling relaxed, at ease and ready to conquer the world once I got home. I will definitely be back very soon for a week of relaxation and isolation.
