The Ultimate Packing Guide for Glastonbury Festival

Summer is nearly here, which means only one thing…. Festivals, and more importantly Glastonbury Festival!

Music festivals are a fantastic way to top up your energy levels and have a great time whether it is with your partner, family or a big group of your girls. There really is nothing better than dancing, in an energetic crowd, to amazing music played by your favourite bands. I am hoping to head off to a selection of festivals this year, including Soul Circus, Wilderness and V Festival. I also applied for tickets for Glastonbury but this year didn’t get a chance to go. Bring on the next time instead….

However, if you want to have the best time, you need to go prepared. Packing the right gear is essential if you want to look good, as well as stay dry and be comfortable throughout the event.

EQUIPMENT

This summer I’m taking with me a 5-man tent with double-ply (or go all out with a tipi), a self-inflating camping mat so I’m not uncomfortable, a cosy sleeping pod bag and the all-essential camping light that I tie to the top of my tent so I can see what I’m doing at night. Then I always take a chair with me, so you don’t get coated in mud and grass every time you sit down, and if there is a big group if you why not invest ni a table too.

Another item on the checklist is buying the right type of bag. For a festival, a suitcase is rarely a good idea. A much better approach is to pack a soft bag, with straps that give you the option to wear it as a backpack. That way if it is a bit muddy you can comfortably navigate your way to the camping ground or other accommodation.

If you are camping, pack your tent and other gear into separate soft sacks. Use one for the tent and another for items like sleeping bags.

It is worth investing in a few packing cubes. They will help you to keep everything organised. That way if it starts to rain you can just delve into your bag and pull out the cube that contains your wet weather gear.

CLOTHING

You can never be 100% sure what the weather is going to do, so you need to be ready for everything. It is best to pack clothing that can be worn in layers, so you can take things off as the day warms up.

I would recommend for a UK festival you want a collection of t-shirts, topped off with a long sleeved shirts or kimono, and a lightweight, shower proof jacket is a combination that works well.

Packing some shorts is always a good idea, and you can always warm up by covering your begs with a jacket or blanket. Lightweight swim-shorts are a great option, because you can easily pull a pair of jeans on over the top!

The fact that most of the day will be spent outdoors means that you need to make sure that you protect yourself from the elements. A good hat is an essential and you can pick up one of these from the stores on site, or head to your nearest TESCO. You can use it to keep your hair dry if it rains and to protect yourself from the sun if it gets too hot.

A set of lightweight, roll up, waterproofs is also a good idea! I’d grab some from Go Outdoors!

TOILETRIES

This is a key part of packing – and something you cannot forget. One, there are no showers, so you’ve got to manage this festival goddess expectation full on. That means packing all the essentials and more.

Firstly, stay as clean as possible by bringing along baby wipes, tissues, and anti-bac gel. There’s also the toothpaste, and toothbrush, and deodorant, shaver and a hair brush. I would also recommend taking along dry shampoo, so you don’t get greasy hair, and then remember the makeup too. Pack a few extra bits, such as face glitter and some eyeshadow for the evenings.

You should also pack some basic medications. There are medical facilities available at most music festivals, but you really do not want to have to waste time queuing up for headache tablets, or bite treatment. It is far better to take your own pain killers and creams to avoid having to do this.

Other things not to forget: the pill (or alternative), SPF 30 sunscreen, rehydration sachets, vitamin C Tablets, hayfever tablets, plasters and blister plasters and ibuprofen. It is also important to pack bug spray and a pair of sunglasses.

OTHERS

Before you leave home double check that you have your transport tickets, and what you need to get into the festival. If you are going to an international event make sure you have your passport in your pocket and some local currency.

The above packing tips work for any type of festival. In fact, I plan to use them when I pack for the Soul Circus Yoga festival, which many of you already know I will be attending, this August Bring on the summer….
