Relax and unwind at Bannatyne’s Spa, Banbury

A few weeks ago it was my mum’s birthday therefore me and my brother decided to treat her to a spa retreat day somewhere in the UK. After a lot of researching and dipping between price and quality we decided to go for the SPA Two Person Midweek Special. Turns out it was a great choice!

Located just off the M40 near Banbury is one of the Bannatyne’s Spa nicest Health Clubs I had been told prior and they were right, it was a lovely club. Of course it is no Ragdale Hall or Whittlebury but it was in a good location, had plenty of facilities and the Spa itself was great.

I am always anxious when booking a spa unless I know of it previously or I have visited before as the word ‘spa’ is so commonly used these days for leisure clubs which means you never know what you are actually buying; a trip to a leisure centre or a spa resort. However I had been told by a good friend that Bannatynes Health Club’s did meet the criteria for a ‘spa day’ and therefore thought I would give them a go!FullSizeRender (6)

When we arrived we were shown around the spa and the lady was lovely on the front desk. We then went to poolside and relaxed with some magazines. Whilst we were in the pool an Aqua Fit class started in the pool so we decided to join in with that and squeeze some exercise in to our day too!

For lunch we just grabbed something light in the cafe near reception, there was a large selection from sandwiches, to paninis and jacket potatoes. They also had the usual soft drinks, fresh orange juice, tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

After our food had settled we went to the spa area for our treatments. The spa has a clear emphasis on offering well-being, relaxation and Elemis treatments under one roof and the new facilities boast a sumptuous relaxation room, including mosaic tiled heated loungers, four single state of the art treatment rooms , dual treatment room and a specialist manicure area. They use the brand Elemis, the internationally renowned British skincare brand, for many of the treatments on offer.

Included in our mid week special package was the use of the facilities and then either a back, neck and shoulder massage or a Elemis facial, both with a scalp massage at the end. I ended up going for the Elemis Facial simply because I have had quite bad skin of late and felt my face needed some pampering.

The facial was really good, they used a variety of different Elemis products including milk, toner, cleanser, exfoliation and a mud mask and then she incorporated my scalp massage in to the time between putting on the mask and removing it which was a nice idea as it passed the time. I felt truly relaxed after I left and needed a gallon of water and lie down for ten minutes just to wake myself up!

I was really impressed with the health club, after initially doubting it would even scrape up to standards of spa’s I have visited before but it was a really excellent venue and I would certainly go back again. I’ve heard they have some higher standard spa’s so I may have to check those out and see how they compare to the higher end.

The facilities included Single Treatment Rooms, Dual Treatment Room, Manicure Station, Spray Tan Room and Relaxation Room in the Spa and then a Pool, Sauna, Steam Room, changing rooms, gym, exercise classrooms, a cafe and large reception.
