My Favourite Cities

Last month I saw that Hippie in Heels has done a post on her favourite cities and thought I would do the same.

The idea was that I you had all the money in the world, where would you go? Now that’s a question I could sit down and deliberate all week but I have whittled it down to five top cities. I am not saying these ones are the best, but these are my pick of the bunch and the places I have found to be the most magical, the most interesting or the most serene. Here are my favourite cities in the world.

  1. Ko Tao, Thailand

Ko Tao is a beautiful island, just off the East coast of Thailand and its whole aurora is magical. The island it still transporting tourists via the long boats and has one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.

However, it is said it may not stay this way for long, Like the other more touristy islands such as Ko Samui and Ko Phangan, the home of the Full Moon Party, Ko Tao still offers everything you would need i.e. Shops, bars and very nice hotels, but it still makes you feel as though not many people have experienced the delight the island has to offer. It is also a haven for diving and snorkelling and has some of the best coral reefs and marine wildlife in the world. Walking along the beach at sunset is incredible!

  1. Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is a beautiful and accessible modern city with great food, museums and Gaudi architecture and it also has the beaches too. The city is full of things to do and it only takes rooftop bus tour to see how much the city has to offer (I know its touristy but sometimes it great to do to see all of the city). It is both a 24-hour metropolis for young adults and teenagers but is also highly family-oriented. Exploring the Old City and Las Ramblas is a definite trip to take and going up to the Olympic Pool on the mountain nearby. It is just a great city and I have three times and would go back again!

  1. Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm is the cultural, media, political, and economic centre of Sweden and the region alone accounts for over a third of the country’s annual export. One of the city’s most prized museums, the Vasa Museum, is the most visited non-art museum in Scandinavia and it is an amazing sight to see when in Stockholm. It’s a great city if you’re an art lover and also home to the famous band Abba. You can take a boat tour round the islands and experience both the nature and the openness the city offers. In Stockholm you never really feel trapped like you could do in London and the parks and open air spaces make it a meka for art and exhibitions. I always feel at home when I visit Stockholm and can’t wait to go there again soon.

  1. Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

It is the culture capital of Bali and offers amazing restaurants, cooking courses and historic markets. Ubud is a town that offers different beauty of Bali and is a very friendly and welcoming community. Travellers can experience the real Bali in Ubud away from the popular touristy areas such as Kuta. There is no tacky music in the bars and no drunken tourists roaming the streets, making it the perfect retreat to relax and indulge. There are lots to do and the best thing to do is hire a moped and see it all for yourself. In Ubud you can see many Balinese arts, such as painting, dancing, and carving and even have a go yourself or get a massage if that isn’t your thing. The perfect retreat for any traveller!

  1. London, England

It was a toss-up between London and Saigon for the honour of this number, but I think that England’s capital just pips it. Saigon is amazing and truly cultural but London just has it all. Obviously for us British folk London is on our doorstep and doesn’t always seem like a great city, however for a lot of people London can be that dream destination and I love it. After all, London played host to the 2012 Olympics, so we figured it must be better. It is also home to Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, the London Eye, the London Dungeon’s and more museums than you can shake a cucumber sandwich and a cup of tea at. London is simply bursting with history and culture. You will never get bored in London…
