A cosy Sunday at The Betsey Wynne

Not far from my house in Milton Keynes is a small village called Swanbourne. This village is also where one of my favourite pubs, The Betsey Wynne is located.

Named after the Swanbourne Estate’s 18th century owner, this traditional home farm venue has become a prominent destination in the village thanks to its striking views, 100-seat restaurant, and extensive bar and lounge area.

The Betsey Wynne is surrounded by patios, manicured gardens and 1,300 acres of farmland, and offers a relaxed pub atmosphere, with great food within their newly-refurbished eating area. The pub is part of the Oakman Inns group, the same group as me and Theo’s other favourite pub, The Navigation at Cosgrove.

Their menu is one we have become to know and love, with a Mediterranean-inspired menu with the traditional Sunday Roast making an appearance, and one of our favourite dishes Pollo Picante!

Jack, the General Manager of The Betsey Wynne is a great host, and always welcomes us when we visit, making the effort to chat to us about the specials that are on that day, and where the food has come from. Their meat and poultry comes from British farms, their eggs are free range, and their fish is responsibly sourced from suppliers approved by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

And if that wasn’t enough, their specials menu also includes an array of dishes from the nearby Swanbourne Estate, including lamb loin and pheasant.

With its finely hewn oak beams, terracotta floor tiles and open inglenook fireplace, the bar area is just as good as the eating area, even including an intimate snug.

When me and Theo visited last week I opted for their Chicken Lemon and Thyme Sunday Roast, whilst Theo opted for an option off the specials menu, The Swanbourne Estate Lamb Loin. The food was just as good as usual and the portion sizes were massive! After two courses, and a few glasses of wine we left feeling expectedly full and needing to un-do our jean buttons!

If you are in Buckinghamshire, make sure you pop by to this wonderful gem of a pub. It is one of me and Theo’s favourites and will be for a long time!

*I was invited to visit The Betsey Wynne but all opinions, as always are my own.
