FEATURED TRAVEL WELLBEING

7 Health and Fitness Retreats to go on in 2018

Photo is not me, it’s my wonderful friend and yoga teacher Phoebe Greenacre whose own retreat is listed below

New year, new you, right?! If you’re not welcoming the new year with a spring in your step, perhaps one of your resolutions should be to make time for R&R by booking a health and fitness retreat in 2018.

I went on one last year, and despite battling with weight issues and mental health it was a trip I loved, and would do over and over again. I came home feeling great, a lot lighter and feeling full of energy!

Stepping away from your everyday life to relax and feel restored is not something you should see as only an indulgence, it should be part of your 12-month plan to put you first, and concentrate on making you the best person you can be. And you don’t have to go with someone either, all of these retreats welcome solo travellers…

HHH Retreats – Various locations

If you hadn’t already noticed from my social media channels back in April of last year I headed off to the wonderful island of Crete for a detox, fitness and yoga retreat with HHH Retreats! The idea of the retreats are to give you both a challenge for your body and relaxation for your mind; to give you a break from the chaos of life, and spend 7 days really working on you, mentally and physically. The retreats cater for all different fitness levels so no matter what size, shape or fitness level you are, they can customise your week’s schedule and they are always on hand to push you further if you need it, or give you time off if you’ve pushed your body too far. Chef Alan Wichert caters for ALL detox dietary requirements as well.

We spent the mornings out and about on the island, and then afternoons sitting by the pool or taking a beach swim, before an evening HIIT workout with the trainers, including Personal Trainers Divan Kombrink and Mel Deane – who is now training Rio Ferdinand for his new boxing career – and a yoga session with the wonderful Phoebe Greenacre. The first morning we ventured out on a hike & bike through 30km of countryside, the second day we headed out on the bikes 17km uphill to the Arkadi Monastry and then on the third and fourth day we went out on hikes with Hiking Guide Mike Veros around the local villages; all with incredible views across the island and we visited a Spirulina plant to see how it’s made during one of the hikes.

Their next retreat will be at the gorgeous Vilamarques in Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal over Easter – 9 bedroom stunning villa all en suite rooms with amazing pool area and training/yoga grassy area….. Dates – Wed 28th March – Tue 3rd April – Easter Break – from £1395 per person all inclusive with Sophie’s Suitcase Special Discount – (flights not included but good prices at around £170 LGW to Faro). Their second retreat is then at the stunning 5* Emelisse Hotel on the Greek island of Kefalonia featuring the team from Restoring-health.co.uk from May 5th-12th, 2018. If an outdoor rugged wilderness adventure is your cup of tea then their retreats in Calgary, Canada are sure to be a hit. Next retreat dates are May 20th – 24th, May 27th – 31st and July 15th – July 19thwith amazing training from NFL superstar Tommy Europe! Prices start from £1795 per person all inclusive with Sophie’s Suitcase Special Discount (excluding flights).
