FEATURED LIFESTYLE TRAVEL

A Year in Review: My 2017 Travel Summary

The last two years of travel have been manic, and 2017 was no different. I travelled lots, but in a more varied ways, ensuring I included slower travel and more UK travel! Here is my 2017 travel summary.

Sophie's Suitcase Barnsley House

January

Theo and I kicked off our 2017 travels with a little weekend break to The Cotswolds for his birthday. Theo’s birthday is in January therefore it always gives us a good excuse to travel somewhere, even if it is in the UK! Previously we’ve visited Yorkshire and Berlin! We stayed at the wonderful Barnsley House Hotel & Spa, and our room was next level, in the attic of the main house! Read about my visit to Barnsley House here.

Sophie's Suitcase Verona

February

I didn’t travel much in February due to a busy month with family affairs. I have both my mum, best friend and Arabella’s birthday, which means lots of fully booked weekends, and family time!

March

In March, me and Katie took a flight to Paris for two days of exploring this wonderful city. I hadn’t been back in years, so I was thrilled to be back in the city of love. We ate lots of cheese and drank lots of wine, as well as staying at the glorious Hotel Banke! Read the full blog post on this adventure here.

Also in March, I visited Verona. This was a trip Theo booked for my Christmas present in 2016, and it was somewhere I might not have thought of visiting… However as soon as we landed in Verona I fell in love, and to date, it is one of my favourite cities. This city is alive with colour, romance, drama and culture and I thoroughly enjoying exploring this under-rated city. Read the full blog post on this adventure here.

April

April saw me fly to Crete with HHH Retreats for my first ever health and fitness retreat. It was an intense five days, with yoga classes, portioned food control, cycling mountains, hiking up canyons, and eating my body weight in spirulina. It was a challenging week, but I left feeling revived, and ready for reality. Read the full blog post on this adventure here.

Sophie's Suitcase Chelsea Flower Show

May

I was struggling with my mental health by the time May rolled around so I didn’t take any trips abroad and instead visited London for a weekend and Brighton. I also went to the Chelsea Flower Show (read about my day here) and met Raymond Blanc in his Jardin Blanc hospitality tent. It was a fun day and I finally got to meet Angie, and Reena!

I did manage to fit in a quick trip to the New Forest though before the month ended, visiting the gorgeous Carey’s Manor near Lymington! We explored the New Forest, and went and ate chips by the sea! You can read about that weekend here.

June

June saw a friend of mine Amy travel to Greece for a week for my blog, as I couldn’t go due to illness. She stayed at the wonderful Princess Skiathos and Marpunta Village. The island of Skiathos is renowned for its starring role in box office hit Mamma Mia and is even more impressive than its cameos on screen. With the sequel having been recently announced, now is the perfect time to explore what Skiathos has to offer. Read the full blog post on this adventure here.

I also visited Y Spa in June with my best friend Katie before she jetted off for six months in South America. It was a lovely break and we spent all our time in the outdoor jacuzzi chatting about university and drinking prosecco. You can read about that trip here.

Sophie's Suitcase Rudding Park

July

As July rolled around I was super excited for only one thing… my birthday! Me and Theo decided to plan our visit to Rudding Park with my birthday weekend, and I was so pleased I got to spend it here. The staff really looked after us, and made it feel special. Set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens and woodland, Rudding Park is one of the most beautiful privately owned luxury hotels. Located only a few miles from Harrogate, and 20 miles from Leeds, Rudding Park is the perfect base for a Northern adventure. Read the full blog post on this adventure here.

And just because I love spa days so much… I also visited the wonderful Ragdale Hall in July with my mum for an overnight retreat! We love going back time and time again to Ragdale Hall and I can’t wait to return again once their new rooftop pool is open! You can read about my visit to Ragdale here.

August

August was a busy month, first Amsterdam, then Wilderness Festival and then France.

Amsterdam has been a favourite of mine for years, having visited multiple times and falling in love with the city, I always return, again and again. It is a city of many faces, and it is this that I enjoy each time I visit; hoping to explore a new neighbourhood, try new local delicacies or do an alternative walking tour of the city. I love Amsterdam, and I know you will do too! Read the full blog post on this adventure here.

After we returned from Amsterdam we then headed across to Oxfordshire to Wilderness Festival with Pimms! It was a wonderful weekend, and we got to see some of our favourites bands of all time. We didnt camp and instead rocked up at the quaint Old Swan & Minster Mill just five mins away. Read about my stay here.

Me and Theo then jumped on the ferry across to France at the end of the month for a week in Reims! We took Arabella, and we spent a week relaxing, swimming and exploring French vineyards… Read the full blog post on this adventure here.

September

I didn’t travel much in September after a busy August, and a busy month at work in September. I work nearly every weekend in September, doing 14 days back to back. I was exhausted and therefore didn’t have time to travel, and much preferred sleep!

Sophie's Suitcase Port Lympne

October

In October me and Theo drove down to Kent to visit the wonderful team at Port Lympne Reserve. We visited for a whole weekend in order to get the most of our time exploring their 600 acres, and hundreds of animals. Port Lympne Reserve are a conservation charity dedicated to protecting wildlife, who also work alongside The Aspinall Foundation, as they aim to introduce animals back to the wild. Sophie's Suitcase Daylesford Farm

November

November was another quiet month for travel and was spent mostly at work as we had a few big campaigns to wrap up before the end of the year, and I started planning for Christmas. I did however finally get to visit the amazing Daylesford Farm for a wreath making workshop with my best friend Sophie. You can read all about it here.

December

Another highlight of my year was visiting the The Cotswolds at the beginning of December. It was a great trip to end the year with some of my favourite people – Ellie, Sam, Kara and Liv. We sat in the hot tub, went for walks, ate lots of chocolate and went out on the lake in our rowing boat. It was a wonderful trip and I can’t wait to go away again with these girls in 2018. Read the full blog post on this adventure here.

And there it is, my 2017 travel summary. What a year…. it’s no wonder I slept for nearly the entire Christmas break! Bring on the adventures in 2018….
