With all of the stresses of everyday life, it’s important that we take some time for ourselves to relax, and recoup. This doesn’t have to be reading your favourite book, or watching that film you love, you can also relax by setting up your own DIY spa at home.
We can’t always afford the luxury of a spa day at a glam hotel, so I’ve popped some ideas together on how to treat yourself at home. And you don’t have to go it alone, invite your friends over too to join in the fun.
Ands it’s Spa Week this week (16th – 21st October) I thought what better way to celebrate by treating myself to a DIY spa at home. Check out these tips for having a spa day at home.
1. Detox your body
While you are enjoying a mani or pedi why not do it like they do in the spas, and pop a few lemons and mint in to a jug to create some infused water. It’s really great to detox, and will leave you feeling revived and it’s great for your skin! Or if you fancy something more calming, why not enjoy a cup of chamomile or peppermint tea.
2. Prepare your skin for sleep
I’ve just bought from my favourite brand [comfort zone] and I picked up a box of their RENIGHT KIT, which includes an oil and a cream. The RENIGHT cream includes certified organic Goji berry oil, hydrolysed tomato extract and hyaluronic acid. Thanks to its rich formula, this is a complete night treatment and recommended for all skin types. And then to finish dab with the RENIGHT oil, which has a precious multi-vitamin plant oil blend silky to the touch, with certified organic Goji berry oil and macadamia oil. Promotes a double nourishing and anti-oxidant action for undernourished, dry, stressed and tired skins.
3. Moisturising hair mask
Treat your dry and damaged hair to a moisturising treatment using 1/2 cup honey, 2 Tbsp olive oil, 1 egg yolk and 1 whole avocado. The honey is a natural humectant, it attracts and locks in moisture, the olive oil is a natural moisturiser, plus it helps thin the honey for easier mixing and application.
Egg Yolk: rich in fats and proteins, helps to strengthen and reinforce hair follicles and the avocado has oils that are most like natural skin secretions and do wonders to smooth and weigh down frizzy hair while the proteins further moisturise the hair.
4. Take a dip
There’s nothing better than having a bath, so run the water and jump in the tub. I’ve got a basket with all of my favourite LUSH products and I pop it out every time I am in need of an hour long bath, whilst I read my favourite book, or magazine. Light a few candles too, and chuck on some chilled music, and there you have it, your very own spa!
5. Soak your feet
Give your feet a rest and treat your dry heals and toes in the process. Simply grab a washing up bowl (clean obviously) and a kettle’s worth of warm water, but remember to let it cool before you put your feet in. Then add 1 cup of sea salt, 1 cup of Epsom salt, 2 cups of Baking Soda and 12 – 15 drops of your favourite Essential Oil(s). Then pop in your feet, and enjoy!
