Monthly Favourites – July #4

Another month has flown by… literally where does time go? So I realised it was time to catch up on all of the events of last month. And my god, it was a busy month, mostly because of birthday celebrations but also because summer had finally started meaning lots of drinking in the sunshine, and catching up with friends.

I headed to Harrogate for a weekend of brithday celebrations, I went to London to visit friends, I said goodbye to the best friend as she is off to South America for three months, and I arranged another Milton Keynes Blogger Network dinner. PHEW. Here is what I got up to in July…

I turned the ripe old age of 25 on July 19 and I celebrated with a trip to Harrogate with Theo, a BBQ with ladies from work, a trip to a spa with my best friend, and a birthday Mexican Fiesta with my family at home. I really felt like I was spoilt, and I felt very loved and grateful to all my wonderful friends and family, who were extremely kind and generous with gifts, cards and going out of their way to see me! Thank you to everyone on here too, that wished me a happy birthday – I had a wonderful week long celebration!

Milton Keynes Blogger Dinner

July meant it was time for another quarterly Milton Keynes Blogger Network dinner, and this time we headed to Las Iguanas in The Hub for an evening of cocktails, and great food. It was so lovely to catch up with some friends, and also meet new people. It was lovely meeting Amanda, Mandie, Amanda, Jasmine, Shauni, Victoria, Sophie, Megan and Hayley!

Welton Soap Box Derby

I am originally from a small town in Northamptonshire, and the village close to me, each year holds a Soap Box Derby through the village and down the hill. Me and Theo go every year, and we love meeting up with our friends and family, and catching up with people we haven’t seen in years. This years was the fourth derby and included an array of amateur drivers racing their homemade ‘Soapbox Vehicles’. The soap box is very similar to the Red Bull race that takes place each year, but on a much smaller scale. Each hand-made vehicle is fuelled by nothing but gravity and sheer courage!!! It’s such a fun day out, with a lot of laughter and drinking.

Keeping up my health eating with BOL Foods

With all this healthy eating, I have become obsessed with plant based meals. I tried meal delivery service EverDine last month, and then this month I tried BOL Foods. Each Veg Pot is a delicious hot meal packed with fresh natural ingredients & bursting with plant-based wholesome goodness. Each pot includes 2 of your 5 a day, is low in salt and sugar and all under 400 calories. They are perfect for a tasty lunch al desko!

A birthday treat to Rudding Park

Set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens and woodland, Rudding Park is one of the most beautiful privately owned luxury hotels. Me and Theo decided to plan our visit to Rudding Park with my birthday weekend, and I was so pleased I got to spend it here. The staff really looked after us, and made it feel special. They also left a bottle of prosecco in our room on arrival, so I was sold… The hotel has also added to the plethora with a £9.5 million spa, with rooftop spa, spa garden, and leisure facilities.

Sprucing up my kitchen with Brabantia

Since moving in to our new home, we haven’t really decorated inside, due to the house being so liveable straight away. W didn’t even give the rooms a lick of paint, and instead concentrated our efforts on the garden, and seating area, just in time for the 35 degree weather at the beginning of the month. We will however gut the kitchen next spring, and kit out the kitchen with a more modern version of what we have now. In order to spruce up the kitchen without going overboard I decided to pick up some bits from IKEA, get some hacks from Pinterest to make the room look tidier, and then invest in a smart looking bin. I opted for the Brabantia Touch Bin in Metallic Mint and my god I love it. The ‘Soft-touch’ closing makes opening a joy. And with the removable plastic inner bucket, it’s even easy to clean.

Visiting Yorkshire

Whilst I was visiting Rudding Park Hotel we also ventured out to a few local places in Yorkshire including the beautiful town of Harrogate, where we did a gin tasting afternoon with the wonderful guys from Slingsby Gin. We also stopped off at the Cow & Calf close to Ilkley for a small hike, and then on our way back we popped in to Leeds for a spot of shopping.

Making memories with HP Sprocket

When HP got in touch with me last month to see if I’d like to work with them on a campaign, I jumped at the chance. Especially as it was trying out one of their latest projects, the HP Sprocket! The HP Sprocket is wireless and prints 2×3 photos anywhere at anytime from your smartphone. It’s so easy! Just snap, personalise your photos with borders or emoji’s and text. So throughout the summer I will be collecting my favourite photos, printing them off and them putting them in to a photo diary to remind me of what a wonderful summer I’ve had.

Y Spa with Katie

As an extended birthday treat I visited Y Spa in Bedfordshire with the bestie for a day of relaxation and catch ups, before she departs for South America for three months and leaves me on my own! If you are looking for a time out and a place to relax, Y Spa is the place for you. This luxurious spa is based amidst 380 acres of countryside at Wyboston Lakes Hotel. The spa is offers the latest in holistic and beauty therapy and is home to eleven treatment rooms, a Hydrotherapy Pool, Thermal Spa and two dedicated relaxation areas making it the perfect place to you to unwind. BLISS!

Trip to London to see friends

At the beginning of the month me and Theo jumped on the train to London, or more specifically Wandsworth and joined our friends in the park for a picnic. It was two of our friends birthdays in July and they had clubbed together to celebrate their special days together. It was a lovely sunny day, and relaxing in the park was much more fun than I had imagined.

What did you get up to in July? Let me know in the comments or tweet me@sophiessuitcse!

Funnily enough we also indulged in a hike on Hong Kong Island, though our gin had to wait until later that evening ! It’s a routine hike which we do every month, the interesting thing about this one however is that we encountered three Chinese water dragons which are seldom seen. In fact in many years of hiking here I’ve only ever seen one before. On another theme I was able to contribute a review of my fave travel book ‘In Search of Conrad’ by Gavin Young to a Nottingham-based website on DH Lawrence. Not many folk realise that Lawrence was also quite a traveller (Europe, Asia, Australia, America) and they are intending to adopt a similar theme. All interesting stuff !
