After reading Sophie’s post on the cities she’d like to visit again I wanted to do my own post. It got me thinking about all the places I have visited before, and which of those I would go back to again and again. I really love revisiting places I have loved visiting previously!
I also feel like Sophie, that the familiarity of wandering streets in a city is lovely, and in fact it gives you an opportunity to explore the lesser known areas, and go off the tourist track. You can find cafes, parks and incredible views, that you would never have found first time around. Here are the 5 cities I’m dying to visit again…
1) Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Me and Theo visited Amsterdam last March, and we are already planning on returning again this summer. Aside from the usual suspects of tourist hotspots, we managed to ever discover the lesser known area of Amsterdam. We walked a lot, stumbling across side-street cafes, boutique shops, and incredible restaurants alongside the canals. We also teamed up with another couple whilst there, hired bikes and explored the city. I also think staying at Yays Amsterdam helped, as they pride themselves on placing you in local neighbourhoods so you can really get to know the city for a local’s perspective.
2) Queenstown, New Zealand
Yeh I know, Queenstown is a town, not a city. But I couldn’t leave it off the list, as I daydream about this place far more than I should, or is normal too. I crave going back to Queenstown every time I need some respite. I miss the skiing, the mountains, the nature, the small cafes, the adventure and the adrenaline. Queenstown is my home, away from home – a jewel in the world, where you can forget about life, and enjoy the present. As soon as me and Theo are settled I’d love to return to New Zealand for a short break.
3) Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is a city I visited many a time as a child, as Portugal was our country of choice most years for a week long summer holiday. We would hire a villa outside of a city, or town and then hire a car to explore the area throughout the week. I remember doing this several times with Lisbon and always wanting more. The food was incredible, the city is beautiful, and there was always a lot to do.
4) Stockholm, Sweden
I visited Stockholm when I was about 16, and ever since I have been craving to go back. I am not sure why, but I love Scandinavia; I love the way of life, the food, the lifestyle and the fashion. The atmosphere in Stockholm (and the rest of Sweden) I remember being relaxed, and pleasurable. I cannot wait to return to the wonderful city, and explore more.
5) Hoi An, Vietnam
Hoi An is a city that I fell in love with instantly back in 2010. It was one of the first cities I visited on my backpacking trip after sixth form, and ultimately which started this blog. Hoi An is a city of colour, flavours, and life. From the street art, to the cookery classes, and from the incredible food, to the beaches and the tailoring, Hoi An is a city which delights and suprises. I spent nearly a week here in 2010, and ever since I have been craving to go back again. I’d like to sit by the river, with a beer in my hand, wearing my new tailored shorts, whilst eating some Goi cuon.
Have you visited any of these cities?
