Monthly Favourites – June #3

Another month, another monthly favourites. I can’t get over how quickly the past six months has gone. I have no idea how it is already July… and that means only one thing. It’s my birthday! Here is the third instalment of my newly launched ‘monthly favourites’ where I talk about interesting and cool things I have done within the month, whether that be a holiday, new product I have tried or something that’s made me smile.

I had such a fun month, I sent one of my writers, Amy, off on a trip to Skiathos, Greece for five days in the beautiful sunshine, I went for a weekend away at Careys Manor Hotel in the New Forest, and I had my girlfriends over for a day in the sun, with prosecco and a BBQ!

Weekend break at Careys Manor Hotel

Last month, I drove to the heart of the New Forest to spend the night at Careys Manor Hotel in Brockenhurst, a beautiful manor house surrounded by a mature garden and extensive grounds. I had been invited on an overnight spa break and I couldn’t wait for some time out as this was our first night away from the new house since we moved in.

From the moment we arrived I was instantly impressed with the location, and the drive up to the valet parking at the front of the hotel. As we arrived, we were welcomed in to the hotel, where our bags were taken to our room. We checked in and headed up to our room, after a super useful talk from the receptionist who gave us a run through of the hotel grounds, spa and timings for our booking. Nescafe Dolce Gusto

The newest addition to my new kitchen is the latest coffee machine from Nescafe. The sleek design, and the ease of use is what led to me to the Dolce Gusto by De’Longhi Jovia EDG250. It fits perfectly in to my kitchen, which is mostly white, and I have it placed in the corner of the room, with my Nutri Bullet, so it is easy to get to, and use in the mornings.

I have not always been a big coffee drinker, but I love the odd one on occasion, and Theo is also a big fan. We love the fact we can now enjoy superior coffee at home (instead of traipsing to Starbucks) with the Delonghi Dolce Gusto Jovia, wich has 15 bars of pressure, designed to ensure even distribution of water and pressure through the coffee capsule. Offering maximum flavour extraction in every cup! And they don’t just do coffee, they also, to my amazement to tea! I will be putting in an order for the Nescafe Tea pods this week… BUY YOUR OWN HERE.

Summer BBQ with the girls

As the summer begins to really heat up, why not also heat up the barbecue too! Sitting in the sunshine, surrounded by friends with a drink in hand is my idea of heaven. Last weekend the girls from university came over for a fun-filled weekend and we had a BBQ in the afternoon. BBQ’S however do take a little time to plan, simply because there are so many parts to a BBQ; meat, salads, decoration, lighting, and of course the drink. Sure, you can throw some beers in a cooler and call it a day. But to make your barbecue memorable, why not select a special drink to serve guests? I always go for Rekorderlig Cider, my favourite summer drink; refreshing, tasty and a true favourite when it’s super hot. They have array of mouth-watering flavours including Strawberry-Lime, Wild Berries, Passionfruit, and Mango-Raspberry. Read my post here.

Why not start your own summer the same way? I am running an amazing competition I am running in collaboration with Rekorderlig. You could be in with a chance to win a £400 acne voucher. All you have to do is follow Rekorderlig on Instagram and post a photo showing how you’re refreshing your style for summer using #StartTheSwedishWay, tagging @rekorderligcider and @sophiessuitcse.

Dinner at The Birch, Woburn

Like everything else around Woburn and the surrounding areas, The Birch raises the standard for great food with a relaxed atmosphere. The family-owned pub is in a great location, only a few moments walk from Woburn village, and a ten minute drive from Milton Keynes. I was really impressed with both the service, and the food when I visited The Birch last month. I had heard great things about this family-owned pub and I certainly was impressed. I’ll be going back again very soon and maybe next time will sit outside in the terrace area! Read the full review here.

Interviewed by The Connection Zone

Recently I have been involved with the wonderful Sally at Yoga Connects. She asked me to come along to Yoga Connects festival in July, and we also ran a competition on my blog for tickets to the festival for you, my readers. Then last week, she kindly asked me to be involved with a new interview series she is running called The Connection Zone. I spoke to Sally last week over Skype all about Sophie’s Suitcase, my career, my ambitions for the future. We chatted about how my blog got started, why I started it in the first place, and my view on extraordinary travel experiences.

The series begun on June 9th, 2017 and every day a new interview will be posted online, and free for you to view for 72 hours. If you miss one, they will be having re-runs on the weekends! It’s a great opportunity to learn how global businesses have been launched, communities have been connected and all about the extraordinary livings that have been created by doing what people love: and you can too! Healthy Eating with EverDine

I don’t really do frozen foods, but when Everdine arrived on my doorstep I was delighted with the options, and healthy aspect associated with the food on offer from Everdine. We also have a couple of pizza’s in the freezer, and I will freeze things like sausages and fruit to prolong the life of it, but otherwise we don’t eat any frozen food. To me they represent stodginess, sogginess, saltiness and unhealthy food that leaves you feeling gross. However, recently I was asked if I would like to try out Everdine, Which is a meal provider with a difference.

They say their meals are ‘clean eating made simple’. They say they are committed to providing foods based on the clean eating concept of not over processing and ensuring that meals are cooked from scratch with the freshest ingredients possible, all the while maintaining super tasty meals. I loved trying out Everdine and will certainly do it again. Read my full review here.

A trip to the wonderful island of Skiathos – Greece with Skiathos Princess Collection

One of my best friends from university Amy went on my behalf to Greece in June, as I couldn’t because of work. She had such a wonderful time, and I was very jealous! She stayed at Skiathos Princess Hotel, with Sanktikos Collection Hotels.

Only a short flight from London, Skiathos is one Greece’s best kept secrets. A small island located in the northwest Aegean Sea brimming with beautiful beaches. Skiathos could easily be mistaken for one of its on trend bigger sisters that are popular with everyone from John Travolta to the Kardashians, but don’t be mistaken Skiathos isn’t a fad destination it’s quickly becoming a star in its own right. Read the full review here.

Trying out the new Wacom Tablet

Last month the guys at Wacom got in touch and asked me if I’d like to try their latest product, the Bamboo Slate. I jumped at the chance, as being a creative I am always on the go, making notes, writing blog posts in my notepad and loosing to do lists every week. Wacom’s smart notepads slowly bridge the digital note-taking divide, by allowing you to take notes on a normal pad of paper with a special ballpoint pen; when you press the button, it sends the notes to your account in the cloud.

You charge the tablet via a standard Micro-USB cable and charger, and pair the folio with your phone or tablet via Bluetooth. When you’re ready to send your notes to Inkspace, you press the button on the folio, and it communicates with the Inkspace app running on your device, saving a picture of the page locally and uploading it. From Inkspace you can convert the page to a JPEG, PNG, PDF or the native WILL file, or SVG if you pay for it, as well as convert it to a plain text file via the website.

There’s also a live mode in which the device mirrors the page as you write, suited to sharing during in-person meetings. What a great product! And one I will be using in both meetings, for blog post writing, and writing my shopping lists. BUY YOUR OWN HERE.
