11 Things To Get You In The Mood For Christmas + HYGGE COMPETITION!

Christmas Sophie's Suitcase

The festive period is finally upon us, the lights are up, the candles are burning and the carol singers are out. There really is no better time of the year, unless you are Scrooge or the Grinch. I’ve been getting very excited for Christmas and little aspects are slowly seeping out in to my house. All of these things seem to be particularly hygge too, if you don’t know what hygge is, where have you been for the past six months?!

The Danish word hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is a feeling or mood that comes from taking genuine pleasure in making ordinary everyday things simply extraordinary; whether it’s making coffee a verb by lingering over a cup to a cosy evening in with friends to lighting a candle with every meal. Over the last few months I have preparing my home and life with the hygge concept, from burning odourless candles to reading my favourite book, and from learning about essential oils to investing in a selection of lounge wear for the winter.

Because of this I decided to put together a list of 11 things to get you in the mood for Christmas and run a competition alongside, so that you also join in the hygge hype. The competition is to win a hygge package so you can relax, unwind and get cosy.

1. Candles

The ultimate Christmas hygge; candles are the epitome of Christmas and all things homely. Bulk buy a load of candles and dot them around your home for the festive period. And all year round for that matter…

2. Mariah Carey and Michael Buble

Mariah Carey and Michael Buble are essentially Christmas personified. Just don’t mention the c-word or play a Christmas tune before November or else you may begin to have some haters.

3. Wine

Obviously can drink wine all year but Christmas merely gives you a good excuse to drink more and not regret it the day after.

4. Advent calendar

Reward yourself every morning with a small piece of chocolate for getting out of bed and heading to work!

5. Pyjamas

I am pyjama wear both day, night, weekend and weekday. I choose comfort overlooking dapper any day. I love buying a new pair of pyjamas every other month and there is nothing better than feeling comfy whilst looking stylish!

6. Red lipstick

A red lip goes a long way and hides an abundance of sins. Beat the hangover and slap on some red lipstick for the ultimate Christmas look!

7. Christmas films

But will you really ever tire of that Love Actually scene? And one thing is for sure once Elf makes it way on to our screens you know Christmas has fully arrived.

8. Sending Christmas cards

It may be old school but sending a Christmas card goes a long way these days. It shows more than ever you have spent time buying, writing and posting the cards to your friends and family. And they are even better to receive! Check out these quirky cards from my Christmas Gift Guide.

9. Duvet days

A day off work with no plans? A duvet day is necessary, especially to go alongside #3 and #5. Get those films on, open the popcorn and enjoy a fun-filled day of relaxing and reminiscing.

10. Christmas jumpers

Itchy, itchy, itchy. But it wouldn’t be Christmas without an oversized comedy Christmas jumper. Especially if you wear it to work, then you really do look like a plonk.

11. Friends and family

Nothing says Christmas more than spending time with those you love, friends and family. Mulled wine in front of the TV on Christmas Eve, chocolate for breakfast with your brother on Christmas morning and watch your pops fall asleep at 9pm later that day. Christmas is nothing without family.

What reminds you of Christmas? I love to hear about unique things that remind people of Christmas. Let me know in the comments!
