AUSTRALASIA TRAVEL

PLAN: 6 Weeks in Australia

Welcome to The Aussie Trip!

Travelling to Australia and New Zealand has been a dream of mine for years, since I was little and finally I am getting to do it with my best friend Katie this autumn. I’ve been saying forever that I’m going to start blogging about my travelling over the past few years but have never properly got started and instead ended up with some short and useless blog posts from when I went volunteering and travelling around South East Asia. This time I am actually going to do it!

I am also aware that it is pretty hard to remember everything that happened, what you did and who you met once you get back therefore I want to use this blog as a way of remembering my trip as well.

We are spending 6 weeks in New Zealand and then 8 weeks in Australia. We are using Kiwi Experience hop on hop off bus service in New Zealand and then will hopefully be using either Greyhound or Ox Experience in Australia as well as hiring a campervan for a week or two.

After a very long time wracking my brains and studying the maps we’ve managed to list the itinerary for our Aussie trip and even though we don’t have exact days or length of stay yet planned we do have a ‘bucket list’ type list of places we are going to stop and see along the way. We are then also going to go with the flow and also stop if we find somewhere we like or stay longer if we like a place more than expected.

Here’s where we plan to go:

  • Sydney
  • Melbourne
  • The Great Ocean Road
  • The Tulley River
  • Cairns
  • Kurunda
  • Daintree Rainforest
  • Cape Tribulation
  • The Great Barrier Reef
  • Magnetic Island
  • Mission Beach
  • The Whitsunday Islands
  • Airlie Beach
  • Agnes Water/ 1770
  • Hervey Bay
  • Rainbow Beach
  • Fraser Island
  • Noosa
  • Brisbane
  • Surfer’s Paradise
  • Byron Bay
  • Sydney
  • Bondi Beach
  • Blue Mountains
  • Currumbin Wildlife

Because of the time, we of course don’t have time to go everywhere and even though we would have loved to go over to the West and go Perth, or the centre and go Ayres Rock, there just isn’t enough time. Instead we decided to stick to the ‘popular’ east coast and make our way down the Great Ocean Road.

I hope it’s something we don’t regret but I feel right now it’s the right decision.

So of course over the next couple of months you can expect to see a lot of gorgeous photo essays and then lots of articles and blog posts about some of my favourite memories from Australia and New Zealand. If anyone else is planning a similar trip or has taken a massive road trip, let me know and we can share stories!

We did East coast road trip (Sydney-Cairns) last April and it was awesome. We have great memories (not yet a lot of blog posts) from this trip, so we are really jealous. Enjoy your trip, cant wait for more posts. 🙂

Great idea starting the blog before you go… wish I’d done the same! It’s frustrating trying to write about things you did years ago rather than just having a current up-to-date travel blog. I’ve been working in Aus for the past 6 months but next week I’ll be starting my own road trip, Sydney- Cairns. Look forward to seeing some of your posts, get some ideas as I go!
